Green Energy Watch aims to take the confusion out of green energy plans, making it easy for you understand the difference, and make an informed choice of green energy supplier.
Recommendations are based on information collected from energy retailers around Australia. Green Energy Watch recommends two green energy products and one electricity retailer per state. The #1 ranked retailer in each category is only a recommendation and is based on 5 factors:

  1. Price of energy plan compared with similar products.
  2. Customer reward program.
  3. Customer flexibility with the electricity agreement.
  4. Range of payment options.
  5. Proven electricity retailer history.
  • Variable price comparison is based on 6,470kWhs per annum, which is indicative of the average household electricity consumption as determined by the Department of Water and Energy.
  • Fixed price comparison is based on amount charged per annum.
  • Prices are subject to review and may vary from time to time.

Green Energy Watch reserves the right to change its recommendations on electricity retailers, Australia-wide at any time. Recommendations will be changed when a market offer is better than our current recommendation.
Green Energy Watch has separated green energy plans Australia-wide into 2 categories by state:

10% Accredited GreenPower and 100% Accredited GreenPower.

What’s the difference between part accredited Green Energy Plans and 100% accredited?

The percentage of accredited green energy in your green energy plan represents how much accredited green energy your electricity retailer purchases on your behalf. Your electricity retailer is then forced to purchase accredited green energy and this is then fed into the national electricity grid.

Accredited green energy costs more to purchase, hence the reason why it is more expensive than energy sourced from burning coal that produces greenhouse gases and is not a renewable energy source.

Example: 10% Accredited green electricity product breakdown means that 10% of your electricity consumption will be sourced from an accredited GreenPower renewable generator.

Therefore, the greater percentage of accredited green energy means more of your money will be invested in building new green infrastructure around Australia. This will help to replace Australia’s reliance on burning fossil fuels for energy that produce greenhouse gases and is also not a renewable energy source.

So which Green Energy Plan should I choose?

Naturally, it’s your decision. The good thing is, you are now able to support the renewable energy sector by choosing affordable 10% accredited GreenPower for your home.

100% accredited green energy for your house will cost around $220 - $300 per year. However, there are fixed and variable prices when it comes to 100% accredited GreenPower. When choosing a 100% accredited product, it's best to speak to a Green Energy Watch representative so they can help you make an informed decision. A variable price plan may work out to be cheaper than a fixed price plan, depending on your electricity consumption.

Whichever green energy plan you choose, you will be reducing your carbon footprint on the planet and doing your bit to help reduce Australia’s CO2 emissions. Every little bit helps!
